A 30-minute "mini-concert" featuring my colleagues from One World Symphony. I'll be playing trumpet in this brass quintet program. The concert is in Brooklyn at Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen Church, which was the 1st Italian parish in Brooklyn; this program is an "Epiphany Concert" celebrating the church's 125th anniversary, and will include music honoring the church's Italian heritage, and festive Christmas music, too. This is a very good group - trumpeters are myself and Angela Gosse; on horn is Douglas Lyons (you've heard him on "The Simpsons" and countless other soundtracks, as well as occasional appearances in the Los Angeles Philharmonic); the trombones are Hitomi Yakata and Patrick Herb (Pat has recently performed with both the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic!) Free admission. Corner of Summit & Hicks Streets, Brooklyn New York. Sunday December 23, 2007 - 11:15am
A 30-minute "mini-concert" featuring my friends Thomas Jostlein, Tricia Jostlein, my spouse Angela Gosse, and me. I'll be playing both trumpet and organ. The concert is in Brooklyn at Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen Church. Sacred Hearts was the 1st Italian parish in Brooklyn; this program is an "Advent Concert" celebrating the church's 125th anniversary, and will include music honoring the church's Italian heritage, and festive music to kick off the Christmas season. Thomas is the Assistant Principal Horn of the New York Philharmonic, Tricia was formerly Principal Horn in the Omaha Symphony, Angela has performed with New World Symphony in Miami, so this is a really good group. We'll be playing quartets, solos, etc. The old Kilgen Pipe Organ (31 ranks, over 2,000 pipes!) will have a thorough demonstration, too. Free admission. Corner of Summit & Hicks Streets, Brooklyn New York. Sunday December 16, 2007 - 8pm Music for brass & choir, with a holiday theme. The Arcadia Brass Octet will be performing with a choir led by Martin Rutishauser. We play a holiday concert with Martin almost every year, and it's always really lovely. Christ & St. Stephen's Church on the Upper West Side (120 West 69th Street, New York, NY 10023 • (212) 787-2755). Check the church's website here. Sunday December 9, 2007 - 3pm
Holiday Concert with the Goliard Chamber Orchestra, produced by Goliard Concerts. This concert is in Astoria, Queens at the Most Precious Blood church, which is a remarkable acoustic space. It's a real joy to play music here (you should hear it!) The program features music of Mendelssohn and J.S. Bach, including the Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 (Sandra Coffin, trumpet soloist), and Bach's Magnificat. Conducted by Dan Radtke, the combined Goliard Chorale and the church's own "concert choir" are remarkably good; this is no ordinary church choir, but a group that has achieved a very refined sound. I'm glad to be playing in such good company. Come early, as this venue is likely to fill up. Friday November 30, 2007 - 6:30pm
It's the church service that sounds like a concert! The music at this church is always concert-quality, and everyone is welcome to come. I'll be playing trumpet with my spouse, trumpeter Angela Gosse, in a program of music for two trumpets, organ and tympani. The program is part of the Installation Mass for the church's pastor, Bishop Andrew St. John (whose position will now be "Rector"). The program includes: "Fanfare for Organ and Brass" by Martin Bresnick, and other goodies by Eugene Gigout, William McKie, Herbert Howells, and Charles Wood. The organist is the very accomplished Claudia Dumschat. Church of the Transfiguration ("The Little Church Around the Corner") - One East 29th Street, New York. View the church's website here. |
